• Ozone generators - 120v + 240v models available, Spa size through 50,000 gallon pool size, easy installation with pump induction screw-in valve replacing pump basket drain plug. Wire power to same terminals as pump timer (on mechanical type timer) for synchronized operation. Filter must have an internal air bleed screen (most filters do, but some don't), or an adapter for the filter is required. Ozone is a wonderful chemical alternative, as it does not even remain in the water for more than a few moments, leaving it pure in a noticeably different manner that can actually be felt by most people, Recommend use with a passive ionizer, such as the Nature2, for protection when the system is off, operation of ozone will be most effective with longer runs of equipment, improvement of water quality from additional filtration and circulation simply adds to the advantage of ozone. During hot summers, wet springs, or leafy autumns, add 1 or so chlorine tablets in a floating dispenser  once a week; and realize that everyone else, without the help of the reduction system, is using a whole lot more chemicals than you are, and your water is still more pure than theirs.
• Phosphate removal - a chemical that reduces chemicals. Phosphates are a major limiting nutrient for algae. By removing the food from the water, the algae doesn't exactly starve to death, but it does become weaker, thus easier to kill with the other methods of sanitizing. Requires weekly doses, phosphates get into your water from all types of sources, rain, wind, stain / metal removers for pool finishes, fertilizer, etc. Serious effort can result in almost complete removal (for a short time) of phosphates, less serious effort can see results also, simply by reducing levels and maintaining low levels. Water has a slightly different shade of blue when phosphates are lowered, richer and deeper. Works by removing the phosphates with the filter, will probably require a filter clean for a D. E. or cartridge filter after initial dosage. Shortens filter cycle of backwashing / cleaning on D. E. and Cartridge filters, from once monthly, to every two or three weeks. Very much worth the extra need for backwashing, to be able to deal with mustard algae with a shock and maintenance algaecide, instead of several hard shocks and bottles of far more expensive metallic (and staining, blue for copper, gray for silver) algaecide, or the frothing chemical reaction to 'scrub the mustard algae' that leaves a pool more vulnerable to future infestations over the next few weeks that chlorine levels can't be maintained easily. ADDED NOTE: Most stain remover and preventer contain Phosphates as an active ingredient! When using a sequestering agent, don't use a phosphate remover or nothing will be seeming to work right.
