Equipment TROUBLE - SHOOTING Guide

WARNING : NEVER WORK ON PUMP WHILE IT IS RUNNING OR POWER IS STILL CONNECTED !!!!

PROBLEMS

           ... POSSIBLE CAUSES

1. PUMP WILL NOT PRIME

•         ... no water in strainer pot

•         ... pump pot lid not on tight

•         ... pump pot lid warped

•         ... damaged lid o-ring

•         ... water level below skimmer

•         ... pump basket is clogged

•         ... skimmer basket is clogged

•         ... skimmer weir (flap) is jammed closed

•         ... suction line is clogged

•         ... closed valve in suction line

•         ... pump is on low speed (two speed models only)

•         ... air leak in suction line

  2. LOW FLOW - HIGH FILTER PRESSURE

•         ... filter is dirty

•         ... valve in return line closed

•         ... plug or clogged return line

•         ... broken backwash valve

  3. LOW FLOW - LOW FILTER PRESSURE

•         ... strainer basket is clogged

•         ... skimmer baskets clogged

•         ... clogged impeller

•         ... backwash valve o-ring or gasket slipped

•         ... air leak in suction line

•         ... restriction in suction line

•         ... inadequate size suction line

•         ... reverse rotation of motor ( 3 phase motors only)

  4. MOTOR DOES NOT TURN                                                                                          

•         ... power switch is off

•         ... circuit breaker is tripped

•         ... pump is in "off" mode of a timer controlled circuit

•         ... motor terminal connections are incorrect

•         ... motor shaft is locked by bad bearing

•         ... impeller is blocked by debris

•         ... dirty or burned contacts

•         ... bad starter capacitor

 5. MOTOR OVERLOAD PROTECTION "KICKS OUT"

•         ... electrical supply connections are incorrect

•         ... wiring to pump is undersized

•         ... power supply voltage low

•         ... ventilation is inadequate

•         ... inadequate water flow
